Lockdown 3/28 - Winter is coming!

Day 3 of my diary of a LOTR Fan Museum owner during our 4 week national lockdown - in NZ we’re uniting as a country to beat Covid-19 before anyone has died. It’s wonderful, but …

Winter is coming outside (rain, some hail, temperature plunge to 13), but here at home things are warm. The job of STAY HOME and be kind is easier today with my beloved. I finally humbled myself, and he was so gracious and tender. Our near 29 years together stood us firm, and we can learn together how to manage this strange period of being locked down together for 4 weeks.

I am finding that what I experienced is not unusual. Today’s newspaper has a section about how to manage relationships at home during this time - especially couples. The paper talks about turtles and lions in relationships. Under stress the turtle pulls all their limbs inside and withdraws whereas the lion roars and commands attention. Wow, do I recognise this! No prizes for guessing who’s who.

I received so many kind words yesterday from friends that it’s humbling. Thank you so much. Your words mean such a lot.

I didn’t get any JRR advice (I had been dwelling on things like, this wound would never truly heal), but Peppa Pig stepped up - “‘Peace and harmony in all the world” - that’s a quote”, a dear friend and fellow LOTR fan offered, and suggested I sing it to myself during the day. Love it.

Ahh, friends. It’s so reassuring to find that the deep friendships (and some new friendships) are just as strong and comforting when we have to talk remotely as when we get together in person. I salute friendship - JRR, you were really onto something there. And deep friendship and family are the things at the heart of The One Room Fan Museum.

So, things on the new job front today are quiet and tempered. And warm in many ways. I do think Beren and Luthien would approve. Signing out for today. Best wishes to all of us impacted by this virus. Kath x
