Lockdown 6/28 – The World Has Changed

Day 6 of my diary of a LOTR Fan Museum owner during our 4 week national lockdown - in NZ we’re uniting as a country to beat Covid-19 to break the chain and save lives, but …

This new job (STAY HOME, be kind) can be rough. I’m posting late today because I’m now confronting the “work from home” phenomenon. The beloved is able to do some days at home, which means he needs our computer. All good, the priority is working to keep people safe, and I can do other tasks in my new job – exercise, clean the house, grocery shopping …

Firstly, tho, the work from home thing has other drawbacks. The pets think “game on”, leading to eviction from the TV-room come office. Not everyone can do it, either, and it’s awful hearing about lots of job losses. There’s some funny stuff on the internet about working from home - like the photo below. Good to have a laugh.

I used the rower in the Fan Museum this morning - it felt like sacrilege. But at least I could be alone with my extremely sad gym music selection. I’ve naughtily posed Gollum in the window alongside the teddy …

I’m just back from the supermarket and it was surreal – scary actually. I was so tense the entire time that I forgot things even with a list. Queueing at 2m spacing for half an hour, then into a nearly empty supermarket. Not as empty as I would like though, there was lots of waiting to maintain the 2m separation. Coming home at round 5pm, there were green lights all the way, no rush hour, someone jogging on the road.

I still feel stressed. Thank goodness I’m back home. The beloved can do the next shop!! It felt like leaving the Shire, being assailed by the fear of Black Riders and the irritation of midges all at once.

Am I going to be afraid to go out once they lift the lockdown? I remember experiencing that when I left the hospital with my first baby. The world had changed and I had new and unknown responsibilities. I send best wishes to all those grappling with the small worries amidst the major risks and fears. Which way to Mordor, Gandalf? Best wishes, Kathy x
