Lockdown 9/28 – 4-Way
Day 9 of my diary of a LOTR Fan Museum owner during our 4 week national lockdown - in NZ we’re uniting as a country to beat Covid-19 to break the chain and save lives, but …
Oh dear, I’m a bit slack in my new job of STAY HOME, be kind today, as my post is really late. That’s what happens when SOMEONE is working from home!!! The beloved is less on the pedestal today . Ah, return to normal (I feel like Merry after he’s taller than Pippin again).
Quick update - I got confirmation yesterday that I don’t have Covid - just a nasty cold. Even though that’s the result I expected, it’s still a big relief to know for certain. Even though I hadn’t been overseas myself in the previous 14 days, I had received overseas Museum visitors and helped them get into costume.
Being off the computer for most of the day means I haven’t been following the Covid toll, which actually feels like a relief.
But I did get to spend half an hour this morning on a new experience – four-way face to face calling with two sisters plus brother (then he had to go and mum came on the line). Wow. I can see what all the fuss is about over Zoom (although this was Messenger). It was really neat – it felt like we were actually getting together.
Great if somewhat inane conversation, but very enjoyable. In that spirit, I asked the group whether Transmission Gully, the new motorway being built out of Wellington, will need to be renamed. This caused some mirth, but really, doesn’t it now need a new name??? Send ideas.
I’ve seen some funnies online about work “meetings” via zoom, suggesting that people are mostly preoccupied with how they themselves look on camera. I can now confirm that’s also true for family convos.
Also, some good old LOTR fun late yesterday afternoon. My bubble buddy sister and I did a ROTK jigsaw puzzle from the Museum. It was very … grey, and therefore quite hard to differentiate the pieces. It was a bit hard going at first, but we really got into it once we had a glass of wine and some chippies. Who needs to go out to have fun??
On a more sombre note, topping 1 million Covid cases today - that sucks. Today was fun for us but I know it’s really hard for many. I wish all of you grappling with Covid just a bit of simple fun sometimes. Best wishes, Kathy x
