Lockdown 47/47 – D-Day
Day 47 of my diary of a LOTR Fan Museum owner during our national lockdown (extended from 28 to 47 days: 33 at level 4, 14 at L3) – in NZ we’re uniting as a country to beat Covid-19 to break the chain and save lives, but …
This afternoon we’ll know - will we be moving to Level 2 or not, and if so, when? Huge day in the new job of STAY HOME, be kind, and the pundits are going mad, with predictably different views around needing more time in lockdown to really be certain about safety vs opening up the economy again because of economic pain to businesses and households. There’s no right answer and I don’t envy the government one iota.
Meantime, this golden Autumn weather continues in Wellington. It’s been so lovely and it’s been fantastic to get out and about, even with the increased traffic. Still social distancing of course.
We’ve had the big flower moon casting silver light in the evenings - we even had a BBQ on Saturday night. Then, golden days where we, along with most other residents of Wellington it seems, have walked out around the waterfront and in the hills. Out walking yesterday I discovered the lovely hidden spot where Laketown was filmed for the Hobbit movies.
Simply glorious. Reveling in these possibly final days of “time out” from normal life, maybe?
I’m acutely aware that it’s far from golden for lots of Kiwis and certainly for many overseas, but this does seem like a precious few last moments in this city before something new begins.
Here’s to new beginnings. I so hope they’re better than what’s gone before. Best wishes, Kathy xx
