Lockdown 42/47 – The Uniform

Day 42 of my diary of a LOTR Fan Museum owner during our national lockdown (extended from 28 to 47 days: 33 at level 4, 14 at L3) – in NZ we’re uniting as a country to beat Covid-19 to break the chain and save lives, but …

Hmmm, what do I wear for the new job of STAY HOME, be kind??? You’d think I’d know after 42 days. But I really don’t know what the uniform is.

Today I donned corporate wear - or at least a work jacket - for a phone meeting. I also put on lipstick. My first time since lockdown and it actually felt great. Of course I’ve now changed back into my daily uniform of merino jersey and neckscarf, but it was good while it lasted. And, I’ve donned a coloured jersey and scarf compared with my usual black.

So it makes me realise just how sloppy my dress has become since lockdown. It’s all about warmth and comfort - except I also quite often potter round in gym clothes. But getting into (partial) corporate gear does feel quite good. Power dressing maybe?

Of course, my uniform for working in the Fan Museum consists of either smart casual or … LOTR costume. I’m equally comfortable in both. And thinking about it, who wouldn’t like these alternatives in their day job? Every now and then I pop into the Museum and get into costume. It’s sad, I know, but I enjoy it.

I looked for some photos of me in my corporate gear - after all I’ve worked downtown for about 30 years. But nothing! All I have are photos of me in the Museum and on holiday. Strange, because most of my wardrobe is the corporate gear …

And, now that I’ve had to get into that smart gear again I’m going to start taking more opportunities to get dressed up. Watch out bubble buddies, be prepared for the corporate queen - or the elven queen! Depends on what mood I’m in. Of course the sloppy Jane might also drop in from time to time.

So, a completely frivolous post today with nothing wise to contribute in these Covid times. But, it’s a bit of fun. Best wishes, Kathy xx
